A man has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving after he was caught doing 160kph in an area where four young friends lost their lives in a single-vehicle crash last month.

The driver failed to stop for gardaí and engaged in numerous instances of dangerous driving through townlands in the Gortahork area on Thursday night.

A quantity of cannabis was also seized following a search of the vehicle.

“The driver had no regard for his own safety, that of his passengers or the local community,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Thankfully, no other road users were put in danger. With the assistance of other patrol units we were able to apprehend the car and arrest the driver.

“He was taken to Milford garda station where he was processed and charged with various offences of dangerous driving and no insurance.
